Medical and Science Editing Services

To Suit Your Needs and Budget

Your main goal as a medical or science writer is to convey your message clearly to your readers. My goal as a biomedical editor is to provide high-quality science editing services to help you accomplish your goal.

Think of me as your writing ally. You use your expert knowledge to describe complex information. I use my science editing experience and English-language skills to help you present that information such that your audience will not misunderstand any part of it.

Flexible Editing Services

All editing services are customizable. You may combine services or request some of the tasks in each one. You gain access to expert help, yet enjoy complete flexibility, fast turnaround time, and lower costs.

Standard science editing (copy editing): corrects errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, usage; ensures internal consistency of facts; maintains consistent overall style.

Advanced science editing (stylistic editing): improves language style and flow, clarifies meaning, eliminates wordiness. Includes standard editing. Journal formatting may be added on request.

Substantive science editing (structural editing): analyzes overall structure, content, language; checks completeness, logic, organization, coherence; may involve condensing, reorganizing, or rewriting. Includes standard and advanced editing.

Journal formatting: adapts a manuscript to suit the style guidelines of a specific publisher.

Proofreading: compares the current document with a previous one to ensure that all parts have been included, or corrects final errors in the proofs of a previously edited document.

For a detailed description of the tasks included in each service, visit the Science Editing Tasks page. If you are not sure which editing services and tasks are most appropriate for your document, please contact me.

All services are backed by my satisfaction guarantee.

I refrain from making unnecessary corrections, preferring to maintain your style and voice whenever possible. In addition, I make every effort to avoid error; however, as the subject matter expert, you are responsible for the content and final structure of your document.

Services Included at No Extra Charge

When you send your document to me for science editing, the following services will be free of charge:

   - Explanations of corrections: I explain the editing corrections directly in text or in a separate file whenever possible. These notes may help you save time and expense should you require editing services again. Authors whose first language is not English may find this service especially valuable.

   - Review of minor changes: After receiving the edited document and making your changes, you may wish to resubmit for a review. There is no charge for minor changes. However, if changes are more extensive, or if you have added a substantial amount of material, a small charge may be applied.

   - Answers to questions: You are welcome to ask questions at any time—even after editing services have been completed to your satisfaction.

Style Guides

Your medical, biological, or social science document can be styled to meet the requirements of many style guides, including American Medical Association (AMA), American Psychological Association (APA), Council of Science Editors (CSE), and others.

Editing corrections are done in MS Word with Track Changes turned on. Author queries are added by using the Comment feature in MS Word or by highlighting them within brackets in the text (your choice).

Proofreading corrections are done by annotating PDF files in Adobe Acrobat or marking up paper printouts. See Sample Proofreading Marks for more information.
